Mausoleum (1983)

One of those random movies I've always skipped over and decided to give it a random shot seeing that it's streaming now on Amazon.  Seen the box cover art on VHS sitting on rental shelves for so many years and always just ignored it.  I shouldn't have! 

I WANT TO SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER!

Mausoleum starts off looking awful, it is low budget, from the cheap atmosphere of the mausoleum, smoke effects, lighting, everything.  You immediately think "oh no" about your decision to watch this.  But you give it a few minutes to build up, and holy crap it's pretty awesome!  Don't get me wrong, this is a bad movie, but it's such fun.  The movie moves at a fairly brisk pace.  For example it immediately starts with a story of how the family curse affects the females who go to the mausoleum.  So of course right away we have one of these family members walking into the mausoleum and oh no demonic possession!  Nothing drawn out here, lets just get to the demonic killing spree I guess.

EVIL DEAD GARDENING

The movie follows Susan, our possessed main character and her day to day activities.  What does she really do?  Dunno, but shes rich, married, and stays at home a lot.  So what's a bored demon to do?  Time to screw around and kill people!  Susan goes about her day in normal fashion until she tends to have random encounters with others which is when she undergoes a change.  Susan's banging random dudes, getting naked a lot, and murdering people left and right.  The movie gets straight to the point, time for carnage.

Always tip the delivery man

The husband and Susan's psychiatrist are the only real other characters in the movie, who just kind of  wonder why Susan is acting strange.  Susan is the main character, and folks are introduced largely to be her victims to seduce and maim.  Lots of boobs and gore, and we even get demon titties!  No literally the tits turn into demons that bite, it's amazing.  The movie is just pure sleazy trash and it's so fun for it.  Mausoleum is well paced, once stuff goes bad, it doesn't let up.  It's so bad it's good, and when your not sure if the movie was trying to be serious, it does throw in a very funny sequence where essentially a character goes and leaves at some of the crazy shit happening and it's played up with comedic music too.  The film makers just went over the top and had some fun so it kinda reminds me of the Evil Dead series.

I like, can't even right now

The movie is straight to the point and doesn't try anything unique.  There isn't a whole lot of story here, and the mausoleum in the title is barely even in the movie.  We get a few moments of some "lore" behind the demonic curse and how to fix it, but not much else.  The creature when it assumes it's full form is ridiculous and that's just part of the fun.  Special effects are both good and bad.  The movie does what it sets out to do and does it well and more trashy horror flicks need to take notes on how its done.
